Air Prishtina was originally founded as ‘Reisebüro Prishtina (RBP)’ in 1981, by Bexhet Sallahu. His concept was based on providing Kosovars living in Europe, inexpensive, safe and reliable flight opportunities to their relatives in Kosovo and the wider region. In its first year, he organised the first civil flight to Prishtina, where he managed to convert the existing military airport into a civilian airport. Today, thanks to Bexhet Sallahu's tireless efforts, the airport of Prishtina is one of the most frequented airports in the Balkans.

Expansion began already in 1983, with the opening of the first branch offices in Kosovo and Macedonia. In 1984, an office was opened in Zurich to open Switzerland as a market. Shortly afterwards, additional offices were opened in Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne and other cities. In 1993 Bexhet Sallahu opened the first office in Germany, and in the same year he achieved the first flight from Germany to Prishtina. With its new office in Vienna, the travel agency ‘Prishtina’ was then represented in over 15 cities in Western Europe and in all major cities of Kosovo and Macedonia. In order to achieve high quality standards in air travel, Bexhet Sallahu initiated among other things a strategic partnership between travel agencies and major European airlines.

On 01.01.2005, ‘Air Prishtina AG’ was founded in Switzerland and incorporated all previous operations and activities under this brand. With a clear customer focus and innovative management principles, Air Prishtina quickly built a dominant market position in air travel to Kosovo and Macedonia. In the following years, substantial investments in modern technologies in order to improve the operative efficiency, continuous development of the services and careful selection of quality-conscious partners all contributed significantly to the strengthening of the market position and the increase in customer satisfaction. This strategy has the potential to ensure the long-term success and stability of the company in a strong competitive market.

On 7th November 2005, the death of Bexhet Sallahu left behind a hard-to-fill a gap. His charitable commitment and his social efforts will remain unforgotten. He was a pioneer and Air Prishtina, with its foundation ‘Bexhet Sallahu’, continues to support his dream – to improve the quality of life of the Albanian people.

From beginning on, even as a co-founder of "Reisebüro Prishtina," stood his wife, Feride Sallahu, at his side. She was his partner and the right hand in all company activities. Until her death on the June 6^th  2011, she was Member of the Board of Directors of Air Prishtina and assisted the company with personal commitment throughout this period. Ms Sallahu will remain in our hearts too.

Since 2005 Ms Leyla Ibrahimi Salahi, the daughter of Bexhet and Feride Sallahu, is successfully leading the company in the spirit of its founders.

Through the strategic partnership with the Italian airline Belle Air, agreed on in April 2010, Air Prishtina has rung in a new era and opened the path to continued success in the future.
